I know that this book is way below my reading level, but since I discovered it in third grade, I've been obsessed. There have been some rumors (a long time ago) that Serafina would get a movie, but it hasn't happened yet. This book is one of the few that I haven't read like 16 times and gave up on.
What I liked:
The main character, Serafina, wasn't just "not pretty enough and just a bit weird" she was really weird and odd-looking
The reveal about who and what Serafina's mother was unexpected
You could really see Serafina's development as a person and character
I don't think it's based in our world, which makes it easier to picture what's happening
What could be improved on:
It was kind of obvious who the Man in the Black Cloak was
It was also kind of obvious that Serafina's mother had been taken by the Black Cloak
There were some parts when I was confused about what was going on, but that might just me being dumb
Maybe a bit more history on the cloak, although I'm sure how that would be incorporated
The ending felt a bit rushed? It might just be me again
