I hate hate hate hate hate this series. I will admit that the first one is the best out of all of them but, that isn't saying much. I read this book because I had heard that it was really good and I love dystopian/ science fiction books. For example, I love the Divergent series, the Hunger Games, and the Host. However, these books are probably my least favorite ones I own. I re-read the series recently for a read-a-thon and God, was it torture. I hadn't read the books in some time so I thought that since I was a little bit older and had read other books that maybe I would have looked at the series differently. Well... it just seemed worse. It is so boring at times and just drags on. At times it just seems like James was grasping at straws to keep the story going.
Thomas has no memory of who he is, or where he is. He is brought to this "camp" that was filled with boys, and a maze. Everyone had their jobs, the cooks, the farmers, the builders, and the runners. Then suddenly the elevator came up with a girl. Everyone freaks out and they know they have to get out of the maze no matter what.
Things I Liked
The mind-reading thing is cool.
The puzzle?
Things I Did Not Like
The characters are not developed. The only one that had a personality was Chuck. Everyone else was pretty much the same. I don't know if Dashner had a reason for this but, I can't see a reason.
Everything happened so fast. I wish I could have seen some more friendship moments with Chuck or more conversation with Newt.
I really wish that Dashner would have added more descriptions. I couldn't really picture the grievers or really anyone.
I do not hate James or people who like his books. I am not saying no one should like this book. I am just saying that my opinion is that the book sucks. That is just me and my outlook on the book. You do not have to hate a book because someone else does. Please do not attack me because I do not like this series. This is no shade towards the author. Please do not take this the wrong way.
